Holy Book Burning and Institutionalized Discrimination

Again, we are inundated with talking heads berating and demonizing Pastor Terry Jones of Florida. He is the Christian pastor who is among the small number of people in this country, Christian and otherwise, who has the guts to stand up to Islam.
Again, I am nauseated at the vitriol spewed toward Pastor Jones because he shows that he has a spine. This is a comment from Rich Galen, writing for the Townhall.com blog:

“That preacher in Florida who burned a Koran is a _____ (Fill in the Blank). On that, I think we can all agree. [Wrong, we do not all agree.]

''The notion that a guy with a 30-person congregation can hold himself up as – literally – a judge, and some of his massive congregation as jury, to decide on the legitimacy of Islam as a religion would be laughable except we don’t laugh about those things anymore.” (From Townhall.com, April 5, 2011 article, “Terry Jones Is Not the Problem”)

If I ever hear similar vitriol spewed at the military for the destruction of Bibles, then I will be willing to view these Jones haters as worthy of consideration.

I don’t recall any mention from Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, or any others in the so-called conservative contingent at Fox News, or any conservative venues, of that travesty.

This is a report from Reuters (Kabul) regarding the incident (May 5, 2009):

“Bibles in Afghan languages sent to a U.S. soldier at a base in Afghanistan were confiscated and destroyed to ensure that troops did not breach regulations which forbid proselytizing…. The U.S. military has denied its soldiers tried to convert Afghans to Christianity….

'' ‘I can now confirm that the Bibles shown on Al Jazeera’s clip were, in fact, collected by the chaplains and later destroyed.’ ” (Quote from spokeswoman Major Jennifer Willis at Bagram air base, north of Kabul)

And this from CNN.com/Asia, “Military burns unsolicited Bibles sent to Afghanistan” May 22, 2009:

“The decision was made that it was a ‘force protection’ measure to throw them away, because, if they did get out, it could be perceived by Afghans that the U.S. government or the U.S. military was trying to convert Muslims,” Wright told CNN on Tuesday.

I emphasize “trash.” The Holy Bible is considered trash and the Holy Koran merits protection. The military, of course, gave an excuse for why the Bibles were destroyed and not returned to America. The primary reason that those Bibles were destroyed is that Muslims are feared and Christians are not. As an American and a Christian, this scenario makes my blood boil.

I heard a comment recently from a Muslim on a radio talk show explaining why the Koran deserves reverence and the Bible doesn’t. His words: the Koran is “holy”; the Bible is not. Interestingly, every Bible in my house is titled “Holy Bible.” Further, the Koran was “written by Allah, himself.” The Bible was “written by men.” He also offered that even Christians say the Bible was written by men.

I expect such ignorance of Christianity from a Muslim, but I bristle that I haven’t heard any counter to this ignorance in the national media from Christian leaders. The Bible was indeed written by men, but it was inspired by God. What men would have been inclined to write the story of human existence the way the Bible does? Think about it, what human would pen such a candid, condemning epic, showing mankind to be the bumbling idiots that we are? In their infinite hubris, men would be more inclined to whitewash all of mankind’s inherent flaws.

Whether or not anybody believes the Bible as I and the many unsung, silent Christians out there do is irrelevant. My point is that Muslims, thanks to the savagery of many of Islam’s adherents, have gripped the people of this nation by the proverbial balls and they are squeezing. I can hear the high, painful, effeminate wail of frightened leaders.

I will not listen to any crap coming from General Petraeus or any other military big-wig about the hateful behavior of Pastor Jones. Nor will I listen to Sean Hannity or other so-called Christian conservatives until I hear an equal outcry about the despicable behavior of the military’s destruction of Holy Bibles and deeming them “trash.”

Wake up Christians! Wake up Americans!

Synagogues in Knoxville, TN vandalized; stained glass broken. Two synagogues were vandalized in Knoxville, Tennessee. Four out of six stained-glass windows were broken by rock throwing at one synagogue and the other synagogue also had rock damage. 1/2/09.

Anti-Semitism, Hamas Support Growing in Iceland- “Jews Not Welcome Here” sign posted. A bicycle shop has posted the sign Judar Ekki Velkomnir, which not only excludes Jews, but uses the derogatory term, “Judar”, for Jews rather than the neutral term, “Gydingur”. 2/3/09.

Synagogue vandalized in Venezuela. Armed men forced their way into a synagogue, vandalizing the interior and writing anti-semitic graffiti on administrative offices. A security guard was bound. They also stole computers and other items. 1/31/09.

Threatening anti-semitic pamphlets left in Ukranian synagogue, warning Jews they would be “held responsible” for killing Palestinian children. 1/29/09.

Al-Jazeera TV program avers “Allah Imposed Hitler On the Jews to Punish Them – ‘Allah Willing, the Next Time Will Be at the Hand of the Believers’”. Sheikh Yousuf Al-Qaradhawi also stated, “by means of all the things (Hitler) did to them– even though (the Jews) exaggerated this issue– he managed to put them in their place. 2/3/09.

Ahmadinejad Slams ‘Filthy Zionist Regime,’ Blames Holocaust. Ahmadinejad gave a speech in Tehran this week, stating Jews used the Holocaust as a way of massacring indigenous Arabs, evicting them, and establishing a Jewish state. He added that the Jews plunder the wealth and assets of nations and deprive peoples of their freedoms, destroy others’ cultures and human values by spreading corruption. 2/3/09.

Two synagogues and a Jewish school in the Chicago area were vandalized on Jan. 10. The graffiti included hate messages directed at Israel for its invasion of the Gaza Strip. A week before, bomb threats were made to several Chicago-area Jewish schools. And on Dec. 29, a man threw a Molotov cocktail at the outside wall of Temple Sholom of Chicago.

In Carmel, California, five youths were arrested for vandalizing three (Jewish) peers’ homes over the weekend and face possible hate crime charges.

Monroe, New York - Monroe Village Police have charged a 14-year-old Monroe youth in connection with etching a 20-foot-by-20-foot swastika in the snow on one of the downtown ponds where people skate.

A Brockton (MA) man accused in a rape and double murder reportedly told police that he intended to kill as many Jews as possible, then kill himself, in what he called a fight “for a dying race.”

Police say anti-Semitic graffiti was found scrawled along the walls of a Crown Heights subway station.

Some passages from school textbooks in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia incite hatred and violence. The offending passages include those that incite hatred and violence against Jews.

The Jewish community in Golders Green, London, has been the target of further anti-Semitic attacks.

The Catalunya government in Spain has called off the ceremony marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which was scheduled to take place on January 27, citing the Israeli offensive in Gaza as the reason.’

Anti-Semitic fliers were left in three synagogues in Venezuela.

Protestors in Sweden gathering to support Israel were pelted with eggs and bottles and tear-gas, then dispersed by police

A synagogue in the Czech city of Trebic was sprayed by an unknown vandal with the slogan “Jews, return Gaza, murderers of kids”.

In Italy, a new survey finds that 44% of Italians are admittedly anti-Semitic.

In Romford (UK), a synagogue has come under attack from anti-Semitic vandals.

A Norwegian diplomat . . . sent out e-mails from her Foreign Ministry email account equating Israel’s offensive against Hamas in Gaza with the systematic mass murder of six million Jews by the Nazis.

Book Burning

They're burning the books. They're not doing it with bonfires this time - but that only makes it worse because in the past the crackling flames and the stench of smoke at least warned us what was happening. And we saw it as well - pictures of jack-boots tossing in Thomas Mann, Kierkegard, Hermann Hesse, etc. as they sang the "Horst Wessel". I mean, there was proof, sight, sound, smell, etc., that the books were disappearing.

But this time we hear nothing. Worse, this time we haven't even been allowed to see the books first before they're tossed in the flames. In the past, when they burned 'Buddenbrooks' or 'Magic Mountain' by Thomas Mann or 'All Quiet on the Western Front' by Erich Marie Remarque - we at least had the chance to first hold them in our hands, smell the leather binding, turn the pages with our fingers, so that even as their physical being was incinerated in flames, their memory still remained in our hearts and minds.

But not these new books. There's no memory of them because they've never lived.

This is City Journal's warning of those 'ghost' books. Books which have never been allowed to be published. Why? Well, Harry Stein's excellent (and chilling) article on 'The Future of Conservative Books' explains it all. Instead of jack boots and Goebbels, it's now the leftists doing the filthy job. And they're so damned efficient at it. Stein chills you with endless examples of how the publishing world ruthlessly, remorsely refuses to print books by conservatives. And even those that it does print are done so with violent animosity, ruthless stonewalling. "The Bell Curve", "Closing of the American Mind", "The Way Things Ought To Be", etc., had to axe their way through the rock solid wall of resistence by the publishing houses. Bernard Goldberg's 'Bias' was turned down by EVERY major publishing house. And here's the chilling fact - every single one of the publishers admitted it was beautifully written, knew it would top the best seller lists, etc. But they all flatly refused to publish it. Why? Because in the publishing world, ideology is more important than profitability. As Stein explains it:

"...the New York publishing world clearly remains a liberal stronghold, uncomprehending of, when not outright hostile to, conservative ideas—and authors. Mainstream media outlets that conventional publishers rely on to tout books have just as little enthusiasm for conservative titles."

This is how the jack boots treat those books we conservatives desperately want to read. And how do the same boots treat us when we are forced to read books we don't want to? Well, read the book "Stalin's Vanishing Commissars' for a scary clue. And then read this link below:

It seems that last week Drudge carried a headline that Pelosi's book had tanked at Amazon. When I curiously logged on to Amazon to check it out, I found that of 165 ratings, 161 were the lowest - one star. Even people who 'admired' Nancy said the book was garbage.

But where where are those negative ratings today - those comments by conservative readers? Well, read this chilling excerpt:

"Users on the Amazon customer discussion board for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s failed book Know Your Power are reporting that Amazon is censoring negative reviews of the book through mass deletion.

A user posted a screen shot image from yesterday showing a one-star rating for the book based on 139 customer reviews. Today, the book is shown to have a two-star rating based on 42 reviews. 97 seemingly negative reviews have been thrown down the memory hole. Some users are reporting having seen a greater disparity in the number of reviews over time, with up to 200 reviews reported to have gone missing."

Yes, the books are burning, people. But this time it's silent.
